How to wear

Saks takes an editor approach to informing guest of new product lines from Designer Alexander Wang. His use of running the online guest through video segments of ‘how to wear’ fashions is easy, approachable and brings the guest one step closer to feeling fashion online.

Theory does post holiday sales messaging + mix n match

theory1

I thought their POV for post holiday savings was fun and unique. I like how they are trying to have a conversation with the consumer (I imagine a little devil of self indulgance on their shoulder reading the sign).

Theory has launched a mix and match feature on their website that shows combination of outfits. I still think Martan + Osa did it better.

When a hip brand gets more then it’s merchandising right

Freepeople is a hot brand, constantly setting trends and style with an amazing assortment. They are doing something else right too – their interactive marketing and user experience is not just consistent with competition, but often times leading edge in a quiet and confident manner. For example their guest experience is simple, easy to navigate, allows for multiple shopping paths (drill down vs. shop by), catalog integration and most importantly their product detail page. Their detail page is well organized, informative and has a few extras that make it somethign to follow – share item with a social media outlet or email, robust product images and crops, tool tips to inform size selection with shipping expectations and so on…probably thier best feature is community at this level. They allow the guest to rate their fits based on a sliding scale from small to true to large as well as other information about the reviewer that helps inform them of the feedback (age, body type and free form comments).

One other element they are getting right is their approach to being valued as a style editor to their guest. They do this in print, but online has really taken the showcase and culmination of everything new and trendy at FP (and things the FP is a fan of). They show new product line sets, have polls for the guest to choose their favorite jean or slip and backgorund on their new catalogs.

They call it their ‘Caravan of Curiosities’….check it out!

Ahead of its time

nike

I finally found an old link to one of my favorite sites from about 7 years ago (circa 2001). Nike launched a new product line that was focused around poor / harsh climates and this site does a great  job of remaining aspiration as well as informative on the products and benefits. While some the technology and flash features seem pretty common place, understand that this was jsut after the dot.com.bust and 7 years old.
